Photorejuvenation is one of the most modern procedures for facial rejuvenation with the help of light pulses. They penetrate the skin to a depth of up to 3 mm, helping not only to get rid of age-related changes, but also to solve some dermatological problems, such as post-acne, vasculature, and pigment spots. The light is pinpointed and gently affects the facial tissues without damaging or traumatizing them.

Lumecca IPL is the most powerful of existing laser systems used in cosmetology. Pulses of high-intense pulsed light (IPL) affect the chromophores in the skin — pigment, hemoglobin, water, and porphyrin — resulting in a simultaneous 3-in-1effect, eliminating age spots and blood vessels, rejuvenating the skin, as well as possibly treating acne.

Indications for photorejuvenation treatment

The following dermatologic problems are indications for treatment with pulses of high-intense pulsed light:

pigmentation of the skin of the face, chest, or hands;

uneven or dull skin color;

age-related changes in the skin of the face, neck, and hands.

How does it work?

The Lumecca IPL handpiece used during the treatment allows you to work on different skin photo-types. The pulsed light targets problem areas at three levels: melanin, hemoglobin, water and porphyrin for acne treatment. Pulsed light affects hemoglobin in the blood, heating red blood cells, which transfer heat to blood vessels, as a result, the vessel closes and blood stops flowing. This leads to the solution of problems such as spider veins. In cases of skin pigmentation, the light pulse is pinpointed on the pigmented tissues, leading to their destruction. It is important to note that healthy areas of the skin are not affected. Photorejuvenation is painless and safe, does not traumatize the skin, does not cause burns, and is suitable for both teenagers and older people.

Procedure stages

The length of a Lumecca IPL photorejuvenation procedure depends on the area undergoing treated, but usually does not exceed 30 minutes. A course may include from 1 to 6 treatments, depending on the problem the patient came to the cosmetologist with.

Consultation with a cosmetologist.

This is necessary in order to properly assess the problems, exclude the presence of contraindications, as well as accurately calculate the depth and degree of exposure to the IPL light beam.

Skin cleansing.

For effective treatment with the Lumecca IPL it is necessary to thoroughly clean the area being treated from impurities and cosmetics. For a tighter contact between the handpiece and the skin, a special gel is applied to the skin, which does not prevent the passage of light beams. When treating spider veins and vascular asterisks, the patient must wear goggles to protect their eyes from high-intensity light flashes.

Photorejuvenation.

After adjusting the device, according to the parameters set, there is a step-by-step treatment of the problem area. The doctor methodically moves the Lumecca IPL handpiece over the skin, and light flashes do their work. A cooling gel prevents the skin from overheating, but the patient may feel a slight tingling and burning sensation.

Rehabilitation after photorejuvenation

Redness on the skin may last for several hours after the procedure. For effective recovery, the doctor applies a protective, soothing cream, and gives a few simple recommendations, following which the patient will easily and safely achieve their goal. The patient should not apply foundation and powder to the skin during the day and when going outdoors should apply sunscreen (even in cloudy weather). The patient should not visit baths, saunas, or go swimming for a week after the photorejuvenation procedure. Steaming or overcooling the skin is strictly prohibited.

Contraindications to photorejuvenation are:

cancer;

tendency toward keloid scars;

intake of photosensitizing drugs;

autoimmune and somatic diseases;

epilepsy.
